چکیده

This article explores employee perspectives on effective leader ship in UK Further Education (FE). Studies on leader ship effectiveness typically seek either to specify the individual qualities of ‘heroic’ leaders or, increasingly, to highlight the collective nature of ‘post-heroic’ leader ship. While these discourses are frequently seen as dichotomous and competing, our research found that FE employees often value practices that combine elements of both. They tended to prefer subtle and versatile practices that we term ‘blended leader ship’; an approach that values, for example, both delegation and direction, both proximity and distance and both internal and external engagement. Drawing on other studies which indicate that paradoxical blends of apparently irreconcilable opposites might form the basis for effective leader ship, the article considers the implications of this analysis for the study of Higher Education (HE). It concludes by highlighting the potential value of more dialectical approaches to the theory and practice of leader ship.

The Study of the Effect of Diversification Strategy, Cost Leader-ship Strategies and Product Differentiation on Business Unit Value

Changes in credit risk may arise when either the value or the risk of corporate assets changes. Changes in the equity value associated with the changes in the asset value and changes in asset risk can be characterized into potentially countervailing direct and indirect effects. The indirect effect of risk on equity value is a function of factors that affect the debt value of including leverage,...

Fuzzy Technique Tracking Control for Multiple Unmanned Ships

Abstract: A Fuzzy logic control law is presented and implemented for trajectory tracking of multiple under actuated autonomous surface vessels. In this study, an individual unmanned ship is used to be the leader that tracks the desired path; other unmanned ships are used to be the followers which track the leader only by using its position. A fuzzy controller was implemented for the ship leader...

Output synchronization control of ship replenishment operations: Theory and experiments

A leader–follower synchronization output feedback control scheme is presented for the ship replenishment problem where only positions are measured. No mathematical model of the leader ship is required, and the control scheme relies on nonlinear observers to estimate velocity and acceleration of all ships to realize the feedback control law. The scheme yields semi-global uniform ultimate bounded...

Leadership in Implementing Technology-Enhanced Learning in Educational Institutions

Conventional designs of educational programs are usually based on implicit instruc‐ tional design approaches that look equally at all learners. However, research indicates that learning is a complex activity involving a number of different aspects. Using tech‐ nology to deliver and support learning adds another layer of complexity. In a rapidly changing environment a template to map the impleme...
